Catena Racing Team (Bucharest) won the 6th edition of the prestigious Superliga Companiilor tournament, which took place in the Romanian city of Mangalia on the Black Sea and featured 16 corporate football teams from the whole country.
In the final, the team from the capital defeated Electro-Flux (Craiova) by 2-1 with the winning goal coming in the 5-minute extra time. Interestingly, both teams also met in the group stage and that game was won by Electro-Flux by 3-2.
Being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the last year edition of Superliga Companiilor, Catena showed their best form at this stage of the tournament this time and beat the reigning 2-time champions Marina from the host city of Mangalia by 10-1. That memorable win was followed by another impressive performance in the semifinals - a 6-1 triumph over Bucharest rivals AD Auto Total.
EFCF President Dr Pawel Dimow attended the tournament and had the pleasure to hand the trophy to the winning team and the MVP award to former Romanian international midfielder Aurelian-Bogdan Pătrașcu (Catena). "I would like to thank Ionuț Daniel and his Liga Companiilor for inviting me to this fantastic event and giving me the opportunity to participate in the award ceremony. I followed the games with great interest and enjoyed them a lot. I hope I will see you here again next year," Dr Dimow said.
The tournament organizers Liga Companiilor also awarded the top goalscorer Luca-Daniel Dumbra (Electro-Flux) and the best goalkeeper Gheorghe-Cătălin Rizan (Electro-Flux). Furthermore, the two teams from Constanța, RCS&RDS and IPA 5, received Fair Play awards.
