BorgWarner claims the title in Liga Firm Rzeszów

23 December 2018 /

The 9th edition of the Polish Liga Firm Rzeszów had an exciting finish this week as the last round of fixtures featured a direct game between the two title contenders.

Challengers BorgWarner entered the decisive match trailing reigning champions MB Aerospace by 3 points and needing the win to grab the trophy for the first time in their history. The players of the worldwide automotive industry components and parts supplier raised to the occasion and recorded a highly impressive 6-1 victory in front of 86 spectators at the stands. Their top scorers Kazimierz Leja and Patryk Sobuś led the way with each of them scoring twice while Piotr Pękala and Sławomir Świst also managed to find the net.

BorgWarner won the league by scoring the most goals (78) and conceding the fewest (28) to record the fantastic goal difference of +50. The team won 9 of their 11 games in the season and suffered only one defeat, 2-5 vs. Butyjana.pl in the 9th round of fixtures.

MB Aerospace, who reached the semifinals of EFBLU European Cup 2 in Slovenia in September, finished with the same amount of points (28) as BorgWarner but did not manage to defend their league title. Unfortunately for the players of the company which provides advanced technology solutions to the aerospace and defense market, the 25 goals of their top marksman Krystian Stanowski were not enough to put them over the top.

The bronze medals went to Linetech from Jasionka who made their debut in Liga Firm Rzeszów. The team of one of the fastest developing Aircraft Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul companies in Central and Eastern Europe surprised positively with their 7 wins and a record of 22 points. Their playmaker Karol Wilk caught the attention with his 10 assists – the joint-most in the league together with B3Team.com’s Piotr Szmela.

Zakład Metalurgiczny "WSK Rzeszów", who won the 7th edition of Liga Firm Rzeszów and reached the final of EFBLU European Tour 1 in the Latvian capital of Riga in May, did not enjoy a successful league campaign this time. After winning 6 of their first 7 games, they finished the season with a run of 4 straight defeats and slipped to the fifth position in the standings with 18 points only.

Summarizing, a total of 670 goals were scored in 66 games this season which gives us a nice average of 10.15 goals per game. G2A.COM’s forward Dawid Kierepka topped the goalscoring charts with 35 goals and also won the MVP award. Furthermore, Butyjana.pl’s Łukasz Pokrywka became the best goalkeeper while the form of Tomasz Kwarta (Jasionka Airport) made him the best defender of the season!

EFBLU congratulates all participants in Liga Firm Rzeszów and wishes them good luck in the new league campaign next year!
